Retreats are held in a private venue to keep the confidentiality of the women who attend. They are free of charge, and transportation options can be arranged. MPA’s Program Coordinator and multiple other knowledgeable birth/first mothers and professionals facilitate workshops and activities. Our Retreat Support Clinician is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and has experience serving birth/first mothers directly.
Each retreat has its own unique program, but the overall structure remains the same:group discussions and time to get to know other women. Group discussions can cover a range of topics, such as: communication with the adoptive family and child, dating post-placement, or shame and guilt.
Past retreats have included wellness activities such as massage, yoga class, nature walks and art projects.
Attendees take a pre- and post-retreat survey, which provide data as to the effectiveness and long-lasting effects of the time spent together. Post-retreat surveys gather results from six months after a retreat.
Each retreat reserves a certain amount of slots for first time attendees.
